Jimami Tofu is a Singaporean-Japanese drama. Written, produced, acted and directed by Jason Chan and Christian Lee of BananaMana Films.
Been wanting to catch this film since it came out but just like most movies/shows made by smaller production houses, it's hard to find the film once it's out of the cinema. (However they are currently screening it again in Singaporeans cinemas at GV so be sure to check it out!) Based in Okinawa, the whole setting and vibe of the movie is magical. The story is beautifully built around cooking, with the relationships of all the characters intertwined through food and culture.
I can confidently describe this movie as underrated and not talked about enough. Especially in a food scene that's dominated by cookie cutter cooking shows.
The layers in the story, the music composition, the cinematic shots, the showcasing of Okinawan culture, so many more things can be said about this movie.
We viewed the movie at Cookyn Inc, who curated a Okinawan inspired menu to serve as the movie was playing. The food was delicious and this experience offered by the company is one to watch out for!
Movie was a 10/10
Cookyn experience with the movie was a 9/10
